NotesWe were contacted by the project leader of the Historic England, “Discovering England’s Burial Spaces”.  They are working in conjunction with the Universities of York and Southampton, the British Library and the National Archives. Their pilot scheme provides community groups such as ours with training and toolkits for recording. Then a central data base will compile burial data from all over the country with the aim of analysing its historical significance, for example how population trends are linked to local industry, disease, economic climate etc on a national basis. Over the next few weeks members of our group will meet with similar projects in North Yorkshire, and with Historic England staff to plan the rollout of our project, hand in hand with their project.
