Project ID: 1098
| Description | Psychology of memory. Canterbury u3a were involved in this project undertaken by the Psychology Department at the University of Kent. We helped in both recruitment and in data coding. Participants watched a set of clips from a well-known soap and were then given a set of questions relating to the film. Half of the group were asked to answer truthfully and half to lie. They were then tested again, with all asked to tell the truth. The analysis hoped to show whether having previously lied about an incident, individuals then would find it harder to remember what actually happened. This might have implications for forensic settings where those being questioned might have a distorted memory of the truth after previously telling a lie. Findings will be sent to the research group and to participants and it was found that the u3a data coders correlated well with the university coders in their reporting |
